FAQs

Do I need to use ice cubes, or can I use frozen water bottles?

You can use either, but we highly recommend using frozen water bottles. Our reservoir is designed to fit up to 8 standard frozen water bottles. This method is cleaner, easier to swap out, and keeps the water icy cold for up to 15 hours without the mess of melting ice cubes.

Can I wear the therapy pad directly on my skin?

We recommend placing a thin barrier (like a piece of clothing, a bandage, or a thin towel) between the therapy pad and your skin to protect against extreme cold, especially during long sessions. However, our pads are made from skin-friendly medical-grade materials.

Can I use this for body parts other than my knee?

Yes! While the AeroBear system is optimized for knee replacements, our Universal Therapy Pad (14″ x 14″) features adjustable straps that allow it to fit securely on shoulders, hips, ankles, and calves.

How does the compression work?

The system uses intermittent pneumatic compression, meaning it gently inflates and deflates the pad to mimic a massage. This helps pump away edema (swelling) and improves blood flow. You can choose between two adjustable compression levels depending on your comfort.

Is it safe to use while sleeping?

Yes, unlike standard ice machines, AeroBear is designed for safe nighttime use. Our proprietary Smart Timer allows you to program specific “On/Off” cycles (e.g., 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off). This prevents overcooling and frostbite while ensuring you get pain relief throughout the night without waking up.

How loud is the machine? Will it keep me awake?

Not at all. We use an advanced brushless pump that operates at under 15 decibels—which is quieter than a whisper. Most customers find they cannot hear it at all once it is running.

How long does the cooling last?

Thanks to our double-insulated 12-quart reservoir, the system can maintain therapeutic cold temperatures for up to 15 hours when using frozen water bottles. This means you typically only need to load the machine once a day.

How do I clean the system?

Maintenance is easy. After use, simply drain the water from the bucket and the pad (by holding it up high). Leave the lid open to let the bucket air dry completely before storing. You can wipe the exterior with a damp cloth.
